Discovering Ancient Ireland

Ancient Ireland - Discovering Ireland
(Current Rating 4.5 - What will you rate it?)

We have found evidence that suggests that people have
inhabited Ireland since 6000 B.C. Not much is really
known about these people, but there are many stories
told by those native to Ireland.

WATCH IT NOW: http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=11615

Bahama Trip Boat Pics -end for now -we will go back again sometime....

Over the two years, we made a lot of island friends, and other traveller friends. We had both sides of the family over on our little boat. We dove for food to supplement our stores, ie., rice, and canned goods, baked bread on a two burner kerosene stove, had cookouts on the beach and entertained and were entertained by friends, both rich and poor (only in spending dollars) like us. We became pretty good sailors, explorers, divers, hunters and foragers, and learned to live by our wits and skill, sometimes well, sometimes we learned the hard way. It was a great trip to do before we had settled down back to our middleclass lifestyle. No regrets, we broadened our perspective and we learned a lot.

A year after we were married, me and my hubby sold everthing we owned, invested in an oil well stock, and with the proceeds, bought a little wooden sailboat that we refurbished and cruised n the Bahama's with. We stocked up on food, clothing, tools, books, and a typewriter and we set out learning along the way..... on a shoe string budget. The whole trip cost about $10, 000 - now probably worth 50-60K for two years on a shoe string budget -lol

Vietnam Beaches

The country has a long coastline, varied, complex climatic zones and generally a fair amount of rain.
The best beaches are mostly in the southern half, and that's best Dec- May [dry, but hot and humid]. However, in that area it doesn't usually rain for long periods at any time, only showers, unless an infrequent typhoon hits the coast, so the beaches are basically OK all year round.
The worst season is probably July -Oct [humidity, occasional rains, typhoons, and of course July-Aug is always a busy holiday period].
Oct - Dec has the best weather over the whole country for sightseeing, with clear skies and temperatures in the mid 20ÿCs.
Plan ahead if you wish to travel during the Tet New Year festival [late January to early February] - it can be a problem getting accommodation and transport.
Montenegro

Montenegro ranges from high peaks along its borders with Serbia and Albania, a segment of the Karst of the western Balkan Peninsula, to a narrow coastal plain that is only one to four miles wide. The plain stops abruptly in the north, where Mount Lovćen and Mount Orjen plunge abruptly into the inlet of the Bay of Kotor.

Montenegro's large Karst region lies generally at elevations of 1,000 metres (3,281 ft) above sea level; some parts, however, rise to 2,000 metres (6,560 ft), such as Mount Orjen (1,894 m / 6,214 ft), the highest massif among the coastal limestone ranges. The Zeta River valley, at an elevation of 500 meters (1,640 ft), is the lowest segment.

The mountains of Montenegro include some of the most rugged terrain in Europe. They average more than 2,000 metres (6,560 ft) in elevation. One of the country's notable peaks is Bobotov Kuk in the Durmitor mountains, which reaches a height of 2,522 metres (8,274 ft). The Montenegrin mountain ranges were among the most ice-eroded parts of the Balkan Peninsula during the last glacial period.

here are sum pix...

Venice

Brief History:

Venice is known world wide as the city of canals. The city was built on wooden stilts cut from trees from the surrounding area in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. Though I have seen nothing stating why, it was most likely for defense (apparently at one time there were several city islands/forts such as Venice). The narrow canals make it hard for any large war ship to come in and the small islands are easily defendable. The maze of canals and walk ways most likely further confused any attackers, causing them to become lost From this tinny, man made island, an empire was forged. It became a large maritime power, making its way to Constantinople and all around the Mediterranean, leaving its mark on other civilizations and cultures.
Venice was once a powerful city state which had a trading empire with the east. They controlled many ports of the Mediterranean including the islands of Corfu, Crete, Mykonos, and Lesvos in the Ionian and Aegean seas. Nauplion in Greece is another good examples, of a port taken over by the Venetians because its buildings echo the Venetian style. While the rest of the former Roman Empire, A.K.A. western Europe, was undergoing the dark ages, the Venetians were observing the achievements of the the Byzantine and Persian peoples. They took their notes and built a splendid city, with many of these Byzantine and Persian features in it. As a result, they built a city which contained the fine art and arches that was known through out the middle eastern world. It was the artwork and other knowledge that came through Venice that inspired the Renaissance.
However, the once powerful city state of Venice is no more. They have left their legacy behind for us to admire ; That legacy of course is their splendid buildings and murals that make up the city of city. The buildings of this charming city still echo the once powerful empire that was conquered from this city. Admiral's houses adorn the main canal. Plazas pop up between the narrow streets and romantic canals at random, reminding you of this once thriving metropolis. Though there are the obvious sites such as San Marcos and the canals, the city its self is a site to behold. There are churches around every corner and beautifully designed houses everywhere. If you ever visit the city I suggest wandering around, after all you can't get lost on an island.
